Update October 1, 2020

For some weeks there has been a weak but constant activity at the top craters, Strombolian activity (small explosions) with emissions of volcanic ash.
This type of activity – being limited to the summit craters above 3300 meters and therefore far from the inhabited centers – does not represent any danger for the population or for tourists.

USE OF SUMMIT CRATERS

Access to the summit craters is currently closed to the visits, for safety reasons related to the volcanic activity (Ordinance of the Municipality of Nicolosi n.16 of 10.9.2019).

The maximum altitude that can be reached is 2900 meters (Torre del Filosofo, at the base of summit craters).
